Planning Questions
How many days should I allow? Six days is a taster, ten days is balanced and fifteen days allows a multi-day trek. See the short, medium and long plans.
Which should I do first, the mountain or the safari? Many travellers trek first and relax in the savannah afterwards, but a short trip can reverse this.
Is there a border crossing? No. Both stops are in Uganda. See the route guide.
Trekking Questions
Do I have to trek? No. Short walks and cultural visits suit those who do not want long trails. See Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
How hard is the central circuit? It is demanding, with mud, steep sections and altitude. Read the central circuit page.
Will I see snow? Snow and glaciers occur only on the highest peaks and need a full multi-day trek, so most visitors will not see them close up.
Wildlife Questions
What will I see at Queen Elizabeth? Elephants, buffalo, hippos, Uganda kob, many birds and sometimes lions, though sightings vary.
Can I see tree-climbing lions? The Ishasha sector is known for them, but they are not seen every day. See tree-climbing lions in Uganda.
Can I see chimpanzees? At Kyambura Gorge, with a permit and some luck. See Kyambura Gorge.
Season and Weather Questions
When is the best time? Drier months are easiest, but green seasons are rewarding. See the best time page.
Does rain stop treks? Heavy rain can slow or change plans, so build in spare days.
Practical Questions
Do I need a visa? Most visitors do, and rules should be checked on official sites. See the practical guide.
What is included in a package? Typically transport, accommodation, meals as stated, park entry and listed activities, with official tariffs applying. Personal items, insurance and tips are usually extra.
What should I wear? Layers, waterproofs and sturdy boots for the mountain, and neutral clothing for safari.
More Short Answers
Can children join? Safari activities suit most ages, while mountain walks have age and ability limits that operators will explain.
Is it good for couples? Yes. The landscapes are dramatic and the lodges peaceful. See Uganda safari holidays for couples.
Can I do this trip in the rainy season? Yes, with waterproof gear and flexible plans, and you may enjoy fewer visitors.
Extending the Trip
Can I add gorillas? Yes, via Ishasha and Bwindi, with a separate permit. See Ishasha to Bwindi and gorilla permits explained.
Can I add Kibale? Yes, by way of Fort Portal. See Kibale Forest National Park and Uganda safari FAQs.
