Kenya Honeymoon Safari Itineraries: Romantic Routes With Bush and Beach
A Kenya honeymoon safari pairs a few nights of private, atmospheric time in the bush with relaxed days on the Indian Ocean coast, and the key is to choose intimate places and avoid rushing.
The most memorable honeymoons mix adventure with rest. Kenya makes this easy: dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife in the interior, and white sand and warm water at Diani. A bush-and-beach route gives both without too much travel.
Below are two itineraries, one shorter and one longer, with ideas for romantic touches and advice on planning a trip that suits two people.
This guide is part of our Uganda road routes and driving guide. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Ameera Africa Safaris Uganda tours homepage.

Eight-Day Bush and Beach
A compact plan that concentrates on the Masai Mara and the coast.
- Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi and rest.
- Day 2: Fly to the Masai Mara and take an afternoon game drive.
- Days 3 to 4: Full days in the Mara, with a possible sunrise balloon flight and a bush breakfast. See hot air balloon safari in the Masai Mara.
- Day 5: A final drive, then fly via Nairobi to Diani.
- Days 6 to 7: Beach days, with swimming, sailing or snorkelling as you wish. See the Diani Beach guide.

Eleven-Day Variation
Add Laikipia for a quieter, more private experience before the Mara.
- Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi.
- Days 2 to 4: Laikipia, where private conservancies often offer walks, night drives, horse riding or sundowners depending on the property. See Ol Pejeta and Laikipia.
- Days 5 to 8: The Masai Mara, with game drives and a balloon flight.
- Days 9 to 11: Diani, or a longer coastal stay.
Romantic Touches
Many camps arrange private dinners under the stars, sundowners on a hill and bush breakfasts. Couples sometimes celebrate with a balloon flight at dawn. The coast offers dhow trips, spa treatments and quiet walks on the sand. Mention your honeymoon when booking so that hosts can prepare small surprises. See also East Africa honeymoon safaris.
Choosing Where to Stay
Intimate camps with few tents, private verandas and personal service suit honeymooners. Ask about noise, tent spacing, bed configurations and whether you can have private vehicles. At the coast, choose between beachfront resorts and smaller boutique options depending on your taste. Review Kenya lodges and camps guide and African beach resorts and beach holidays.
Pacing and Logistics
Do not fill every day. Allow late mornings after dawn drives, keep transfers short and use flights to save time. Build in a night in Nairobi at the start to absorb jet lag. Finish the trip at the coast so you leave relaxed rather than exhausted. See flying safaris in East Africa.
Best Time to Go
The dry months bring good wildlife viewing and sunny beach days, though the coast is warm and humid at various times. Weather varies across regions, so check Kenya best time to visit. Book early for July to October and for school-holiday periods.
Beach Days and Activities
At Diani, days can be as active or as lazy as you like. Swimming, snorkelling, kitesurfing, sailing on a traditional dhow and walks along the sand are all possible, depending on tides and conditions. Quiet couples often prefer a spa session, a late breakfast and sunset drinks. Tides at the coast change the character of the beach through the day, so ask your hosts about the best times to swim. Plan one or two activities and leave the rest of the time free, so that the beach part of the trip feels like genuine rest.
What Is Usually Included
Most packages include accommodation, meals as listed, private or shared vehicles, park fees, internal flights if specified and transfers. Special dinners, balloon flights, spa treatments and tips are often extra. Ask for details and remember that official tariffs apply. Travel insurance and sound health preparation are essential.
