East Africa Honeymoon Combination: 18-Day Long Itinerary Across Four Countries
This eighteen-day honeymoon links all four countries and finishes on Zanzibar, with a gorilla trek, two lake stays, the Mara, the Serengeti and a beach.
A long honeymoon allows a slow build: forest and lake first, then the great plains, then the sea. The route moves west to east and north to south so that every transfer goes in a logical direction, and rest stops are placed after the most demanding days.
It is the most complete plan in the set. For something shorter, see the medium itinerary, or return to the honeymoon combinations guide for the overall approach.
This guide is part of our Uganda road routes and driving guide. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Ameera Africa Safaris Uganda tours homepage.

Uganda and Rwanda: Forest and Lakes
The first week combines wildlife with quiet. The Queen Elizabeth boat trip and Ishasha drives warm you up, the Bwindi trek is the emotional centrepiece, and Lake Bunyonyi gives your legs a rest. Crossing to Rwanda brings Lake Kivu, where days can be spent walking, kayaking or simply watching the sun set. See the Kampala to Kigali route and Lake Bunyonyi.
Kenya: Masai Mara
After a flight from Kigali to Nairobi, you reach the Mara for three nights. That gives time for balloon flights, game drives and a bush dinner, if your lodge offers one. Read the Mara transfer guide and the wildlife guide for detail.
Tanzania: Serengeti
The journey from the Mara to the Serengeti usually goes through Nairobi and Arusha, because direct options are limited. Check current schedules with your operator. The Serengeti rewards with vast plains, leopards in trees and, in season, the migration. See Serengeti guide and balloon safari if you want a second flight.
Zanzibar: Beach Finish
End with warm water and slow days. Stone Town can be explored on foot, and the coast offers snorkelling, dhow trips and quiet dinners on the sand. See Stone Town and spice tours and Mnemba Island.
Pacing and Rest
Day ten is the heaviest travel day, so give yourself a quiet evening. Between the Mara and the Serengeti, keep the day light, and avoid scheduling anything strenuous on arrival at Zanzibar. If you feel tired, shorten the Kivu stay rather than the Serengeti.
Romantic Touches Along the Way
On an eighteen-day trip, small celebrations help each stop feel distinct. Consider a private dinner in the forest near Bwindi, a sunset boat ride on Lake Kivu, a bush breakfast after the Mara balloon flight and a candlelit dinner on the beach in Zanzibar. Tell lodges about your honeymoon in advance, and leave one or two evenings free for spontaneous plans. Keep a journal or a photo book to record each country, as the variety will blur otherwise.
Managing a Long Trip
Stagger the physically demanding days, keep laundry for rest days and avoid over-packing. Share bags between you to stay within light aircraft limits, and carry essential items in hand luggage. Confirm each transfer a few days ahead, and ask your operator for a single emergency contact that works across all four countries. If either of you tires, shorten an activity rather than skipping a rest day, because a rested couple enjoys the second week more.
Optional Swaps
Couples who prefer Kenya's coast can replace Zanzibar with Diani, while those who want more wildlife can add a night at Ngorongoro or Tarangire. A second gorilla trek is possible but needs a second national permit.
