Uganda 14-Day Safari Itinerary: A Complete Two-Week Journey Across the Pearl of Africa

Fourteen days lets you see Uganda's main parks at a comfortable pace, add lake and cultural time and keep gorilla trekking safely away from the last day.

Two weeks is a generous length for Uganda, because it takes the pressure off long road days and adds time for relaxed experiences. It suits travellers who want both wildlife and a feel for the country.

The plan here is one example, and the notes afterwards explain how to adjust it for interests such as birding, hiking or culture.

This guide is part of our Uganda road routes and driving guide. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Ameera Africa Safaris Uganda tours homepage.

How

How Two Weeks Changes the Experience

With extra days, you can split long drives, add a rest day after gorilla trekking and visit smaller attractions. This changes the trip from a checklist to a journey. You also gain flexibility if a trek is delayed or the weather turns. See the ten-day plan for a shorter version and more Uganda itinerary ideas.

Lake

Lake Bunyonyi and Rest Time

Lake Bunyonyi lies near the south-western border and is known for its terraced hills and islands, calm water and birds. It is a restful way to end a demanding trek. See Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi and Uganda lakes and islands. Canoeing, short hikes and village visits are common activities.

Optional

Optional Add-Ons

If you prefer a remote experience, replace part of the plan with Kidepo Valley, which usually needs a flight or a long drive. If you love hiking, add a short Rwenzori trek or a walk in the Mgahinga area. If you love birds, add Mabamba Swamp near Entebbe at the start for a shoebill search. See Kidepo Valley, Rwenzori Mountains and Entebbe to Mabamba Swamp.

Driving

Driving Pace and Comfort

Uganda's roads vary, and distances are best understood in terms of time rather than kilometres. A two-week plan can limit any single drive to a manageable day. Ask your operator for realistic driving times, seat comfort, rest stops and a vehicle with a pop-up roof or large windows. See the Uganda road routes and driving guide.

Seasons

Seasons and Permits

Gorilla and chimpanzee permits are limited, so lock in dates as soon as possible, especially for dry months. Ask whether low-season permit offers apply to your dates. See how gorilla permits work and low-season permit options.

Slow

Slow Travel Touches

With fourteen days you can add small pleasures that shorter trips miss, such as a morning walk at a crater lake, a coffee-farm visit or a craft market stop. These unplanned moments often become favourite memories. Keep one or two afternoons empty so that you can follow a recommendation from your guide or simply rest.

Choosing

Choosing a Style

You can travel with a private guide-driver for maximum flexibility, join a small group or mix lodge types for variety. Ask how many nights you will spend in each lodge and what is included. See Uganda safari lodges and camps guide and group and private safari packages.
