Sezibwa Falls
Your first stop will be at Sezibwa Falls located along the Kampala-Jinja highway, approximately 20 miles east of Kampala - Uganda’s capital. The falls, 7 meters (23 ft) high, are ideal for rock climbing, bird watching, and nature walks. They are home to over 120 bird species including weavers, red-chested cockoos, sunbirds, snake eagles, Kingfishers, and Cormorants. The surrounding forest hosts Bush monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and many other primates. You'll also hear the stunning legend behind the source of Sezibwa’s existence, said to have been born by a human mother.
Mabira Forest
Your next stop after Sezibwa Falls will be at the renowned Mabira Forest, a massive rainforest covering approximately 300 square kilometres (74 acres) located in Buikwe district between Lugazi and Jinja. The forest is not just a jungle of massive trees and greenery but an arena of delicate beauty with colourful birds, butterflies, orchids, and various kinds of flowers. Perfect for birding and nature walks, it hosts over 315 bird species including Nahan’s francolin, black-shouldered nightjar, Casin’s hawk, blue-throated roller, African dwarf kingfisher, white-spinetail, Afep pigeon, and more.
Source of the Nile
You'll then proceed to the source of the Nile, an attraction that has drawn masses of curious tourists throughout the ages. Lake Victoria and River Nile present a soothingly beautiful sight. Enjoy a boat ride on River Nile and sail to the actual place where this massive river is said to begin its journey to the Mediterranean sea. Experience the gentle breeze, the sound of waves, local fishermen drawing and mending their nets, and the Savannah vegetation and greenery on the small islands. After the boat ride and nature walks, you'll depart from Jinja with the setting sun. Your return to Kampala with the Ameera Africa guide will mark the end of your ‘1 day Jinja guided tour’.
