Tarangire National Park: Elephants, Baobabs and Dry-Season Wildlife

Elephants, baobabs and a river that holds wildlife through the dry months.

Tarangire National Park is known for large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. During the dry season from June to October, the Tarangire River is the main water source for the region, and thousands of animals gather near it.

The park also supports lions, leopards, giraffes, buffalo and over five hundred bird species. It is one of the quieter stops on the northern circuit, and is often visited first because it is close to Arusha. See Lake Manyara for the nearby lake park.
