Lake Kyoga: Uganda's Shallow Nile Lake in the Heart of the Country

A broad, shallow lake whose shoreline is a maze of papyrus and swamps.

Lake Kyoga lies in central Uganda, between Lake Victoria and Lake Albert on the course of the Victoria Nile. It is very shallow, with an irregular shoreline of papyrus swamps and many arms, making it a haven for waterbirds and an important fishery.

It is not a standard safari stop but is passed on the way to Murchison Falls and the north. See lakes in Uganda and birding tours.
