Gaddafi National Mosque in Kampala: Uganda's Largest Mosque and Minaret Views

One of the largest mosques in East Africa and a good viewpoint over the city.

The Uganda National Mosque stands on Kampala Hill in Old Kampala. It was built with support from Libya, hence the name Gaddafi Mosque, and opened in the mid-2000s. Visitors can usually enter outside prayer times and climb the minaret for views across Kampala.

It is an easy stop on a Kampala city tour and not far from the Owino Market. Visit modestly dressed; women are usually asked to cover their heads and shoulders.
