The Equator in Uganda: Where to Stand on 0° Latitude

Uganda straddles the equator, so you can step between hemispheres on the way to the parks.

The equator crosses southern Uganda, passing near Lake Victoria, the Kampala-Masaka road, and the Kasese area close to Queen Elizabeth National Park. There are marked crossing points, where travellers take photos on the line.

Because of the elevation, much of Uganda has a mild climate despite the latitude; see Uganda's climate. Most western safari routes cross the equator on the way to Queen Elizabeth or Bwindi.

This guide is part of our Uganda facts and travel information guide. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Uganda tours and safari packages.
