Uganda Group & Private Safari Packages
Private departures give you control; small-group safaris share the cost. Here is how to decide.
Every Uganda safari package we run can be arranged privately, and some itineraries can be joined by small groups on fixed dates. The right choice depends on your party, your budget and how much flexibility you want. This page compares the two honestly.
It forms part of our guide to Uganda safari packages; solo travellers should also read solo and small-group safari holidays.
Private Safari Packages
A private safari means your own vehicle, driver-guide and itinerary, built around the dates and pace you choose. You decide when to leave the lodge, how long to stay at a sighting and which activities to add.
- Best for: couples, families, friends travelling together and anyone with specific interests such as photography or birding.
- Strengths: flexibility, comfort, tailored guiding and the ability to change plans.
- Consideration: the vehicle and guide cost is shared among fewer people, so the per-person price is higher for small parties.
Small-Group Safari Packages
Small-group departures run on set dates and share a vehicle and guide among several travellers. The set itinerary is less flexible, but the per-person cost is lower, and many solo travellers enjoy meeting others.
- Best for: solo travellers and budget-conscious guests who are happy to follow a fixed route.
- Strengths: lower cost per person, company on the trip.
- Consideration: less flexibility with start dates, timing and activities.
Large Groups, Families and Special Events
For larger parties — extended families, friends, school and corporate groups — we arrange multiple vehicles, block-book lodges and secure gorilla permits across several family groups. Booking early is essential. Our family safari guide and family tours page have more ideas.
How to Decide
- If your dates are fixed and you want a custom route, choose private.
- If you are travelling alone on a budget and your dates are flexible, ask about group departures.
- If you are a group of four or more, a private safari is often the better value and the better experience.
Tell us your party size and dates through our contact form, and we will quote both options when they apply.
Group vs Private
| Style | Benefits | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Private | Flexible dates, pace and route | Costs shared among fewer people |
| Small group | Lower per-person costs, social | Fixed departures and shared pace |
Choosing
Families and couples often prefer private trips; solo travellers may like groups. See family safaris, couples and solo and small group.
What Is Usually Shared and What Is Not
On a small-group trip the vehicle, driver-guide and some meals are shared, while accommodation can be shared or single depending on your booking. On a private trip your party has a vehicle and guide to itself, so you can start early for wildlife, linger at a sighting or skip an activity. Gorilla and chimp permits are per person and the trekking group is made up by the park, so even private travellers may trek with other visitors.
Questions to Ask Before You Book
- How many people share the vehicle, and does everyone get a window seat?
- Is a single room available, and at what extra cost?
- What happens if someone drops out of a group departure?
- Can the itinerary be adjusted once on the road?
