Rwenzori Peaks and Massifs: Stanley, Speke, Baker, Emin, Gessi and Luigi di Savoia

Six massifs make up the Rwenzori range, each with named summits.

The Rwenzori Mountains form six main massifs: Stanley, Speke, Baker, Emin, Gessi and Luigi di Savoia. The highest is Mount Stanley, whose Margherita Peak reaches 5,109 metres and is Uganda's highest point. Most of the range is glaciated or boggy, and only a few peaks can be climbed without technical skills.

Most visitors trek the Central Circuit rather than the summits. See Rwenzori Mountains National Park and the tallest mountain in Uganda.

This guide is part of our Uganda park trails and activities guide. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Uganda tours and safari packages.

Trekking the Range

Reaching the top summits needs technical gear and experienced guides. The Central Circuit and shorter walks such as Kazingo and Bukurungu give views of the glaciers and valleys.
