Kilimanjaro Best Time to Climb and Altitude Sickness: A Practical Guide

The driest months give the clearest weather, while a slow pace gives your body time to adapt.

Kilimanjaro can be climbed all year, but the most popular windows are January to March and June to October, when rain is lighter. April, May and November are wetter, with fewer climbers and cloud cover on the lower slopes.

Altitude sickness is the main risk. Symptoms include headache, nausea and fatigue, and they can progress. Climbing slowly, staying hydrated and descending if symptoms worsen are the basic rules. Read the routes comparison to plan a gradual ascent.
