Uganda vs Kenya vs Tanzania Safari: How to Choose
Three classic East African safari countries compared, and how to combine them.
East Africa offers three of the most popular safari destinations in the world, and they offer very different trips. Kenya and Tanzania are famous for open plains and big herds; Uganda is famous for primates and for a quieter, greener, more varied experience.
We run safaris in all three countries, plus Rwanda, so this is an honest comparison rather than a sales pitch. See Uganda safari vacations, Kenya safaris and Tanzania safaris.

Which Is Right For You?
If primates are your priority, Uganda is hard to beat. If you want the migration, look to Kenya or Tanzania depending on timing. Many people combine countries; read Uganda and Kenya and see our wider safaris page. Compare Uganda and Rwanda for gorillas in Uganda vs Rwanda.
Practical Differences
- Getting around: Kenya and Tanzania have larger parks with longer game-drive days; Uganda has more varied terrain and often more driving between very different regions.
- Accommodation range: all three offer budget camping through to luxury lodges. Compare the standard of what is included instead of the country label.
- Timing: seasonality differs; the great migration moves between Tanzania and Kenya, while Uganda's primates can be seen all year.
- Trip length: Uganda works well as a focused 7 to 10 day trip; Tanzania and Kenya often need more days to cover the famous parks.
Combining Countries Sensibly
Combining all three in one trip is possible but rushed. Pick two at most unless you have three weeks or more, and add a rest stop between long transfers. For ideas see Uganda and Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda and our 8-day classical Tanzania safari.
